This BOSCH solar panels review will look into whether these panels are (or were) any good compared to modern, Chinese solar panels. Ah BOSCH, the reliable, German-engineered, power-house brand of electrical gizmos. I can’t help but remember the BOSCH branded electric shaver my dad used to use. The brand is a huge one, and it’s been around for a very long time. The question is, are BOSCH solar panels any good?

BOSCH Solar Panels – Company Overview

Most of us have heard of BOSCH. Here’s a brief overview of BOSCH with regards to BOSCH solar panels:

  • In 1997, the company started out as Ersol Solarstrom GmbH & Co. KG
  • In 2009, the company changed its name to BOSCH Solar Energy AG
  • In 2013, the company decided to cease operations
  • Solarworld AG acquired BOSCH Solar’s cell and module operations

So you might say that BOSCH plays a redundant role in today’s solar market. BOSCH Solar Panels though are still around.

BOSCH Solar Panels – What’s Good About Them?

BOSCH (I tend to think) are a great brand. Their usual approach to products is to do them well. They are not at the cheap end of the scale either, which is perhaps one reason they’re no longer in the solar game. There are too many good, cheap panels out there for a company like BOSCH to compete profitably.

  • They got 78th place in the 2012 Photon test
  • They held 67th place in the 2013 Photon test
  • They are a massive company
  • Their factory is in Germany – making them one of the few “real” German solar panels

BOSCH Solar Panels – What’s Not To Love

Well let’s face it, they’re not the best panels in terms of performance. They gained a little ground from 2012 to 2013, but don’t look too flash in the September release from 2014 either. BOSCH have normal panel warranties, nothing special there. Overall they are a decent panel with good build quality, but the extra special spark wasn’t really there to help BOSCH take more market share than it did. They didn’t take a place at all in our 2014 panel ranking.
