Yingli solar panels are known by most in the industry. And for good reason! Yingli is one of the largest solar panel manufacturers in the world.
Of course Yingli panels (like most) come out of China and this is something that no one in their right mind would care about. I mean, you don’t want a crap panel right? Well 7 out of the top 10 panels (according to Photon international yield test) were from… Yep, China. And as a matter of fact, one of them was Yingli.
Are Yingli solar panels good?
There is no doubt that Yingli are a solid solar panel company. They know how to make a good panel, that’s for sure. Well, at least if you look at the 2012 Photon results. Don’t look at the 2013 results though because Yingli is nowhere to be found. OK come on! Give them a break. I mean they are a Tier 1 panel after all.
What does Tier 1 mean you ask? Well that depends who you ask really. In reality it is NOT a measure of how good a panel is but on how big the company that makes them is…
So come on then, are Yingli solar panels any good? OK, OK well to be honest, they are good but I don’t think they are great. They have potential, but you could do better. in 2012 you have SERAPHIM and SUNPOWER that out-ranked Yingli… And in 2013 you have EVERY PANEL on the list!!
What about real life results for Yingli solar panels?
Well if installers know a thing or two about panels then I’m afraid Yingli doesn’t cut the cake. It gets through the icing but just can’t make it through the nutty, chocolaty center…

Where are Yingli solar panels made? In China (where else?). Here is a worker sorting cells. Looks semi-pro at least.
Here’s what’s good about Yingli solar panels:
- They got #5 overall (#2 front busbar) in the 2012 Photon Test
- They are pretty cheap compared to most “premium” panels
- They are a Tier 1 company (if that matters to you)
- They have a “standard” solar panel warranty setup, which has third party backing
Here’s what’s not so good about Yingli solar panels
- They could be a little over-priced (because they did well in Photon 2012)
- They are not even on the chart for the 2013 Photon Test
- They are made in China (if that matters to you)
- There are better panels you can get for the same if not less coin

You have to admit, the Yingli factory looks pretty impressive.
